MEET THE EPIPHANY LUTHERAN SCHOOL TEACHERS...

Preschool 3 Year Old Program

2006-2007

Dear Parents,

Welcome to PK 3!  It is my pleasure to be your child’s teacher this year.

I would like to share with you a little about myself.  I like to garden, read, work out at the gym, and work with stain glass.  My love for children, working with their families, and the joy of seeing children develop in every area are some of the reasons why I chose to be a teacher.  I have a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University.  This will be my 16th year teaching at Epiphany.  During this time, I have taught PK 3 and kindergarten. Every year at this time, I think about how much I look forward to a new beginning and getting to know the families of the children I will work with in my class.  Mrs. Kay Kinney will be my aide.  This will be her 7th year at Epiphany. She likes the children to call her “Miz” Kay.

In October, my husband Bob and I will celebrate 36 years of marriage.  Our daughter Michelle is married to Von Limbaugh and they live in Denver, Colorado where he practices law.  They have two children, Riley and Bailey.  Our son Bob and his wife Heather are insurance agents with UGA-Association Field Services in Tampa.  Their son Miles Robert McKnight turned 1 last May.

In my classroom, I have a spiny tail iguana, named Harry.  He is 14 years old.  He likes for the children to bring fruit, lettuce or vegetables to share with him at snack time.  We also have a fish.  There is a garden outside my window and a bird feeder.  We enjoy a lot of wild life through the window.

I hope you will be a partner with Miz Kay and me in your child's education.  I know my teaching must begin with helping your child to feel comfortable and safe in our classroom.  Each child will be helped to come together into a learning community made up of particular, unique individuals, each with his or her own learning style, history and hopes.

Please bring the volunteer form that is attached to this letter on "Meet Your Teacher Day”, August 10, 2006.  “Meet Your Teacher Day” will be 4:00 until 6:00 PM.  This will be a good time for your child to meet Miz Kay, Harry, “the fish” and me in the classroom. They may also choose their cubby.  If you plan to be out of town on August 10th, please bring your child’s supplies, with their name on everything, and my volunteer sheet to school before the10th.   This will help the first day of school not be so hectic.

May God bless our year,

Susan McKnight
